Dass and das trip up almost everyone — they sound identical, but they do completely different jobs. Das is an article or a pronoun ("the book", "that one"), while dass is a conjunction that introduces a subordinate clause ("I think that he's right").
A handy shortcut: if you can replace the word with dieses, jenes, or welches, it's das. If you can't, it's almost always dass.
The exercises below are short and focused — pick the right word, sentence by sentence.
Dass vs. Das Exercises
Dass / Das Exercise 1
Read each sentence and pick whichever word fits — das when it points to a noun or stands in for one, dass when it kicks off a "that..." clause. Try the dieses swap if you're not sure.
